This is one of those books I almost didn't pick up because of all the hype. The series is so popular in the booktube community, and I went into it with many expect ions. Some of them were definitely fulfilled, others not so much.
The world:
My favorite aspect of this book without a doubt! I really loved how so many of my favorite types of creatures to read about (vampires, werewolves, warlocks, ect.) are all woven into this book. Along with these classic characters we get Cassandra Clare's awesome Shadowhunters. The idea of people who mark themselves with runes (like magical tattoos) to fight off evil demons for us mere mortals is freaking cool.
The Characters:
Ahhh, this is where things get complicated. The main characters, Clary and Jace, drove me insane nearly the entire book. There is also a love triangle involved with them which is just never a good thing. We need to let this love triangle thing go YA literature. Please, and thank you.
I have found a lifelong love in Magnus Bane the sexy warlock character. Magnus will have a HUGE role in why I continue reading this series. His character is hilarious and I need to get to know him more in the following books. Isabel and Alec Lightwood also stand out as wonderful supporting characters. My feels are now invested in these three permanently.
The end:
Hopefully this isn't too spoilery for you, but that end! An ending is not something I would normally talk about in a review, but it really saved the book for me so I'm talking about it. I just want to say that it has been awhile since a book surprised me with that much of plot twist.
Do I recommend?
I would recommend this series to anymore who enjoys addiction. You have been warned. Seriously though it's not the most well written first book in a series, but I have high hopes of the rest of the books! *cough* Magnus Bane *cough*
Happy Reading! :)

I'm also not a huge fan of this series, but I also liked the ending! Sth about the story/world wasn't so intriguing for me!
