I hope all is well in your word reading and beyond. Things have started off slow this year, but with school kicking off next week I'm sure that won't last. If only it could.. Anyway, this is book two in the Artemis Fowl series. If you read my review of book one then you know I love Artemis. He is a lovable little asshole in my eyes. Reading this series again has been much more enjoyable than expected! I love the characters even more the second time around. Just like I mentioned in the last review these books are meant for a younger audience and that is evident at time. If you have read books like the Percy Jackson series [as an adult] and were okay with the juvenile humor it shouldn't be a problem.
In this book we follow Artemis and his magical friends as they try to recover his father from Russia. As with the first book it is fast paced and hilarious. Something different in this one is that we get to see Artemis's compassionate side. It is a peeling back the layers kind of book and we really get to know our little genius much more. Now, it's all the same characters but instead of being his enemies everyone is on his side. I really enjoyed the second book more than the first. It was great to see Artemis and Holly on the same team. The friendship and mutual respect that blossoms between Holly in Butler for the first time is lovely to see. Overall it is the beginning of a new chapter in young Fowl's life.
Highly recommend this series to lovers of fantasy young and old. This entire series is fast paced and highly entertaining. The plot is very well organized and there are some twist and turns that I didn't see coming. I will see you soon as I am already deep into book three and loving it too.

Happy New Year everyone! I hope your holidays were merry and Santa brought all the books you wanted! For my first review of the year I am playing a bit of catch up. Right now I am in the middle of rereading the Artemis Fowl series. It is a middle grade series with a snarky prick of a main character. I have got to say that Artemis Fowl was one of my very first book boyfriends growing up. This is a series I grew up with and have been thoroughly enjoying reading over. As the first book in a series I feel like this is a good way to introduce the series. Artemis Fowl has lost his father to the Russian Mafia and now feel like it is his job to maintain the Fowl criminal fortune. Good thing Artemis is a genius. In order to do so he enlist the umm..help from some fairy gold.
I won't spoil it, but somehow our genius criminal mastermind finds out about the existence of fairy People. There is nothing fairies are known for more than their gold. With the help of his faithful bodyguard Butler, Artemis determines to con the fairies our of their gold.
The Good
- Great characters: Artemis Fowl, Butler, Holly, Foaly the centaur, and Commander Root are all favorite characters for me. They are witty and easily distinguishable characters.
- The plot is very fast paced and enjoyable. The mixing of technology and magic is super interesting plus I love me a good fairy book.
- Artemis Fowl is one of those characters that you just fall for in a book. You can't help but root for the little dude, even if he is a crook. His presence really kept me turning the pages!
The Cons
- This is very young and boyish. I know, I know we shouldn't assign genders to books but seriously…it's aimed at little boys.
- Juliet is the only character I really don't like in this book. She is a "typical stupid teenage girl" type and I did not appreciate her. Without spoiling anything I will say that her character get's better so not a good reason to give up on the series.

Oh goodness...prepare for the gushing! Warning there is no way to make this without Giver or Gathering Blue spoilers so don't read this is if you haven't read those.
Right off the bat, this is a really fun book for fans of this series. This one is told through the eyes of Matty. Matty has really changed since his days in the Fen (rough neighborhood from Gathering Blue). He now lives with Seer (Kira's father) and is a messenger for the community. One of the few people who can travel into Forest, Matty is still pretty fierce.
I LOVED getting to see Matty's growth in this novel. I enjoyed reading about his experience becoming apart of this community. Another character I enjoyed getting to know better is Seer. We get so little of him in Gathering Blue and I was so happy to learn more. Possibly the most exciting thing about this book is Jonas. It's hard to describe how happy I was to learn about his important role in this community and how he has learned and grown.
Compared to Gathering Blue I felt like the pacing of this book was fast. The plot was organized in a way that always kept me guessing and waiting for more! This was a re read for me, but I seemed to have remembered very little. Very often I caught myself gasping or crying.
I won't spoil the ending for you, but OMG OMG OMG. That's all I'll say...
Highly recommend this one for readers of The Giver and Gathering Blue. It was amazing, 5 stars, so amazing!
